So many beautiful examples of vivid and daring-colored lawn and garden furniture have inspired me to bring out the spray paint in my backyard.
This pair did not make it out of our basement last summer:
basic white and black.
basic white and black.
Our patio furniture-- table and chairs-- are traditional and safe black. That is my preference for outdoor furniture that sits adjacent to our yellow house with black shutters.
But my wheels started turning one evening as I sat on the patio looking back into our yard and gardens. Most of the color is along the sides-- provided by various perennial flowers. I began pondering: how could I draw the eye deeper into the landscaped area that is predominantly green?
That's when I remembered these two chairs shoved over in a corner in the basement. Out they came! The mission: paint these a fun, nature-inspired eye-catching hue! It was time that they get to strut their stuff!
The technique was simple: sand the rusted areas, dust off, and spray! I used Rust-oleum Painter's Touch 2X Coverage spray paint for this project. I hoped to find a color that was named for a flower~ but no luck, so I ended up choosing "Grape." This purple reminds me of a flower on a vinca vine or verbena.
These chairs have some unique shapes included in the design-- leaves, hearts, flowers, sunburst, spirals. They needed to be freed from their staid chair personalities! No more sitting in the corner of the basement~ time for them to dance in the gardens!

First, here's a peek at some details.
I'm thinking I'll name them Cha & Cha!

Those look sooo fun now! They are beautiful chairs.
OMG...they're BEAUTIFUL dancers now. I just "made peace" with the wrought iron in our screened porch being black, but I'd toyed around with teal or a bright sapphire blue, and now I see these beauties... :) Who knows what color ours will be by the end of summer :) Your chairs are real beauties in themselves, too! Thanks for sharing your cute story. ~Zuni
Grape was a perfect color choice to draw your eye to the back of the garden! And those chairs were much to pretty to be hiding out in the basement! Thanks so much for joining the party!

The chairs came alive!
They look fabulous out in the yard - such a bright cheery coolor that stands out against the trees!
Love the purple and the detail in the chairs. The really do look awesome.
THANKS Cynthia, Zuni, Sharon, Hakan, Carlene, Patti, and Sammi~ for all your affirming comments! The chairs are happily dancing under a shade tree during this extreme heat wave and near-drought conditions here!
All the best to each of you!
That's too cute! They definitely deserve those dancing names.
