I rescued a simple wooden desk chair from my neighbor's garbage pick-up years ago. It was unpainted with a light stain. The light stain was polka dotted from raindrops. It was very similar to a Pottery Barn style chair.
Here's how it has looked for some time with several coats of white paint and slight distressing.
But lately...months actually...this chair has been whispering to me. "Make me special. I need a touch of uniqueness." And to tell the truth, for months I have been thinking, "all you need is one stripe."
I knew just the color I wanted for that stripe. But procrastination and indecision reigned. Maybe I would be sorry I didn't leave it white. Is it really worth the effort to choose just the right shade of paint? Is it worth the time to tape and paint one silly stripe?
I am no expert on painting. When I am re-doing a chair or other furniture piece, I have a design in mind, but typically, I feel the need to adjust my idea along the way. That was the case with this chair. After painting the wider stripe using my homemade chalk paint, it just didn't seem finished. I decided an additional narrow stripe would give it the look I desired. It was just the very small touch that was needed. {Note: I used Sherwin Williams paint color, "Paradise". That is indeed paint below, not tape! It wasn't until I applied the tape and paint that I saw how close they are in color.}
I found this beautiful green gourd on Saturday. It was my confirmation to launch this little project. Nature is the best inspiration!
I lightly sanded with 220 grit sandpaper to barely distress some of the green stripes.
Here's a view from the back of the chair.
I will apply a wax paste finish in a couple of days (letting the paint dry completely.)

I'm pretty sure that "Verty" is happy I saved him from a lonely landfill existence!
